Brenda Parker Workshops and Presentation

Posted on Updated on

Brenda’s workshops and presentations to SA Bonsai Society members was very well received.

Brenda was knowledgeable about a range of plant species, their growth, care and styling. All participants were very happy with the outcomes of their achievements with Brenda throughout the weekend.

Our monthly meeting had about 90 members and guests. Brenda presented an informative talk and demonstration on Suiseki, Kusamono, reinforcing elements about the finer points of bonsai display.

One particularly strong point about presenting a display for bonsai is that the space for your bonsai should ‘tell a story’. The pot and tree should be in harmony with each other, the stand should match the theme of the bonsai, and the accent plant or object should match the bonsai. In other words, if you are displaying a fig in a contemporary style, then you would not want to use a strikingly formal Japanese stand. You would also be searching for something that would complement the bonsai as your accent plant or object.

Another illustration might be that if you are displaying a formal Japanese Black Pine, you should be using a classic Japanese stand, paired with an accent plant or object that is appropriate for a pine. You would not use a colourful flowering plant, instead probably choosing a group of grasses.
